“Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us.”
"I took a deep breath and listened to the old brag of my heart. I am. I am. I am."

Can you imagine how fucking wild ladies must have gone for the rejection in pride and prejudice right after it was first published. This guy’s making ten thousand a year and her family is expecting her to find accommodation for herself sooner rather than later and STILL Lizzie is like “no. No. True love only. And also while I’ve got you here please accept my invitation to fuck off.” I would’ve lost my damn gourd, I would’ve gone bonkers. And group chats didn’t exist so you’d just have to hope your friends were as far into the book as you so you could meet at the village green to throw a fucking riot
pride and prejudice (2005)
you really do love him, don’t you? very much.
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.
surprise thank you gift for @arwenundomiel
endless list of favourite female characters [9/∞]: elizabeth bennet
I could easily forgive his pride, if he had not mortified mine.
I cannot fix on the hour, or the spot, or the look, or the words, which laid the foundation. It is too long ago. I was in the middle before I knew that I had begun.
“I never saw such a woman. She would certainly be a fearsome thing to behold.”
[…] Darcy had never been so bewitched by any woman as he was by her.
“You must know… surely, you must know it was all for you. You are too generous to trifle with me. I believe you spoke with my aunt last night, and it has taught me to hope as I’d scarcely allowed myself before. If your feelings are still what they were last April, tell me so at once. My affections and wishes have not changed, but one word from you will silence me forever. If, however, your feelings have changed, I will have to tell you.”
what she says: i’m fine
what she really means: lydia bennet spent her entire life having her mother as her role model and her father never really cared about her. in fact, all she had from him was a constant affirmation of how stupid and naive she was. she grew up relying on mrs. bennet’s view of the world and at the age of 15 she reached the definition of glory in her life by finding a man who would actually propose something serious to her. the entire world judged a 15 year old girl who probably ended up suffering all kinds of domestic violence by the man whom she swore would take her to a higher social status instead of taking care of her.
